Boom Jaws Sailboat

boom jaws sailboat

Gaff and boom jaws - leatherwork when i rigged the boat in the post before last i tape some pieces of cloth around the jaws on the booms and gaffs to protect the finish on the masts. the proper way to do this is to "leather" the jaws or the mast or both.. A set of boom jaws are a pretty cheap, simple and effective sail-shaping device and will usually do this job without needing to be tended or adjusted. in situations when you're sailing with high mainsheet tension (like sailing in high winds or trying to point high) the sheet pulling down on the boom and the jaws' ability to be pulled downward. The bottom of the main sail is held by this boom. to start, i made the jaws and clapper that will hold one end to the mast. the model shipways bluenose kit provides laser cut pieces for the jaws, which were cut loose and sanded to remove laser char..
