small boat kite
This kite-scooter, despite being an amateur-built and somewhat crude and heavy prototype, is a fast, incredibly versatile, easy to operate and amazing sail craft designed for light wind and flat. Project gallery 2003-present. the kiteboat project has existed in some form since 1997, when don montague first began attaching kites to boats. between 1997 and 2006, don worked with a team in hawaii to develop kites for use with surfing canoes, small catamarans, and large motored cats; their accomplishments included wave-riding and several island crossings.. My training kite (hq symphony beach iii 2.2) was able to pull a small rowing boat (17 ft) at 3 knots in 8-10 knot wind. i kind of suspected i can forget about stabilizing and autopilot unless i build some advanced system for that, but threw it in there just in case..
small boat kite Upwind doesn't work, except for small kites on small light craft, where, as the man says, you can figure-8 the thing across the sky. on bigger boats (commercial shipping for example) doing a figure-8 with anything more than 200 feet wingspan is impossible.. If you want to start on your own than please start small with a 4 line trainer kite to get a grip on the kite / lines / bar as controlling instrument - than step up to a small kite - ( 6 - 9 m2 ) and attach it stationary to a dock or fixed object ( not your pick up truck please ) to learn to balance the forces and only thereafter attach it to.
