small electric start boat motor
I need a small outboard (under 15hp) with elecric start for my skiff. i run a few jugs on the river and am getting tired of pull starting my old (1958) evinrude 10hp. not being very familiar with small outboards, i dont know what to look for in a small electric start. i need to find something pre 2000ish to keep costs down.. I want a small electric start outboard but find nothing available in the 4-5-6hp range. i would like to remove the recoil drive and shroud from a briggs 5hp air cooled outboard (everybodies favorite outboard) and add a belt drive to combo starter/generator from a gas engine golf cart.. Mercury made a 7.5 with electric start any smaller than that would likely need modifications to use a friction start motor just like the larger rc aircraft seems if you are looking for a small outboard the electric ones will be sufficient in power and there is no starting required. i am also curious about the lehr propane powered outboards.
